So I didn’t choose to start the trip in HK by accident, firstly I’d been here before and secondly I have a good friend out here, Panos and it would be an excellent opportunity to catch up.
I’d arranged to meet him at 7pm the time was already 5 and I had literally just got to my room, I was going to need a nap and a shower! Fortunately sensing I was running late he messaged and offered to put it back till 8pm… result.
Despite my tiredness my powernap lasted approximately 15 minutes, for some reason I woke feeling as if it were much longer. Now the hotel may be small but it did possess one of the best showers I’d ever had so I updated my blog with the flight and made my exit.
The air had a damp feel but nothing to worry about so I donned a t shirt, my only pair of long trousers and my only footwear… Saturday Night Fever this ain’t.
I’d arranged to meet at a Mexican place called Agave, obviously this was HK what else would you eat? I arrived to find a pint of Stella and Panos awaiting me, we hugged the way only 2 heterosexual large males do, very aggressively and loudly in order to prove to those around us we are real men… It’s more like a sumo contest!
I’d barely sat when the largest plate of nachos I’d seen arrived… Stella and nachos they’d be mistaking me for a Chinese native any minute now. They turned out to be the best nachos I’d ever tried who’d have thought that?
Hong Kong delicacy
One Stella turned into 2 and then 3 whilst we caught up, again for men like us this generally revolves around taking the mickey out of mutual contacts… it’s a guy thing nobody knows why but it is the law. We covered the rest of the basics football, women and other miscellaneous sports before moving to the window seats and a view out of Wanchai’s happening spot, a run of bars and restaurants with the odd extra service thrown in if you catch my drift.
Happy ending?
As we sit watching more friends of Panos join us, it’s a regular melting pot of countries and probably accurately reflects HK as an international place of business, introductions are made and we offer to meet up with them in a short while when we have finished our drinks. Panos kindly settles the bill and we depart for several more pubs and many more beers and friends of his.
HK nightlife is very relaxed, the bars generally have music or a live band on and there is a real buzz in the air, I am really getting to love this place. I’m not sure what time it is when I finally turn in but it’s been an awesome night and I am very drunk/tired.
Something to note gents is that during the night you’ll be joined by any number of attractive females looking for someone to buy them a drink, they are always very pleasant and never get upset if you turn them down, it’s a way of life out here don’t be offended by it and they are certainly not going to give you anything but a hug when they move on don’t be fooled.
After a good night’s rest tomorrow I plan a bit of sightseeing.
Shrugs out
